Hope, My Birthright
Hope,
It’s my birthright,
Given to me
When I was born again
In you.
And now
Hope,
It’s what I am
Clinging to.
When things look bleak,
And they close the door,
When I am led
To an empty shore,
When there seems to be
No way through,
When my pockets are empty
And I don’t know what to do
When I am anxious, and alone
And my heart, has wandered
Far from home,
I pull out hope,
Like You taught me to.
It’s the the winning ticket,
That will see me through.
I hold hope up,
High in the air
So all can see it
And I boldly declare,
“I am a daughter of the King!”
And to those things
that seem so hard…
I apply hope!
Hope’s not a wish
Or a wonder,
It’s a guarantee
Of all the things
You promised to me.
It’s a, now but not yet, certainty
It’s a Good Friday but Sunday’s coming space of let’s wait and see…
See, how those promises
Will turn things around,
Because hope’s not shaky,
It’s hard solid ground
So, in place of the questions
That plague me today,
I’ll choose hope;
Hope that You’re with me
Hope that You care,
Hope that an answer
Will soon be there
Hope that You see and
Hope that You hear
Hope that You’re
Stronger than my fear,
Hope that You hold me
Hope that You stay
Hope the darkness
Will turn to day
These truths are sure
Your word is strong
My hope is in You
To whom I belong
And so, discouragement,
You will not
Win the day
Instead I letting
Hope…
Lead the way.
