Stay

I know
I am supposed to
cast my burdens
on you God,
To throw the things
that weight me down,
in your direction.
But today it feels like
those burdens
are far too heavy to even pick up
let alone throw.

These weights that I have examined and
tried to fix for so long
melded to my hands.
My tight grip has me feeling like
they are one with me
and I am having trouble prying my fingers off.

So, I question You
How can I cast my burden God, when it’s too heavy to lift?
And I hear you say, “Slide it my way.
Slide it toward me
and leave it at my feet.
Then climb up right here.
There’s a space next to me
in my chair just the right size
for you.
Now watch me work and
see what I can do.”

So, I pry my fingers,
loosen my grip and
slide these burdens toward You.
I take Your hand,
and find my seat,
and then in comes
the sweetest peace.
As You take responsibility
and now, these things are
under Your feet.

Nothing is too hard or
too stuck or
too messy or
too far gone-
I just sit and watch You work

My job now, is to stay,
stay in my seat and
leave my worries
at your feet.

Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;

Psalm 55:22 (NIV)
