Uncomfortable

Like a rock in my shoe
There are things in my life,
Spaces and places
That are, let’s say…
Uncomfortable.

Like the tag in my shirt,
Things just don’t feel right-
Bothersome, itchy and
And perhaps even
Painful at times because
It rubs.

But, there is no pebble to find,
No tag to remove,
And this uncomfortable
Looks as if it’s staying,

Like a houseguest who
Sits in my place on the couch far too late into the night,
I feel displaced,
Moved,
Into a different view…

Disgruntled and
Not sure what to do.
I ask You,

“What do I do
with this disturbance
that I can’t get away from
that I
can’t
remove?”

And the answer
comes soft and
true,

“Be open to receive it’s discomfort
Because the uncomfortable,
It’s shaping you.

It’s wearing off the edges
Taking off the sharp
Working beautiful things
Down into your beautiful heart.

So don’t be afraid of
Uncomfortable.

That pebble
Rolling around
In your shoe,
It’s the very thing I am using,
It’s
The
Undoing,
That is making
you new.”

2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

1 Peter‬ ‭4:12-13‬
“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.”
